Early Years
Playbus’s experienced early years team offer a range of pre-school
services for children and their families. A typical session will include a
range of play types designed to challenge the child to learn more about
their environment and to improve their language skills. Many of the early
years team are familiar with Makaton and we also use picture to help the
child to explain what they would like.
Music and singing is also popular on the Bus as it captures everyone’s imaginations and at time we have even encouraged them to sing rhymes in Spanish.

Cooking and preparing food is a very popular activity for mums and children alike. At the stay and play sessions we have been focusing on encouraging the families to explore health food options for their children. Although cakes are very popular as everyone likes to enjoy the left overs
All of the planning for the sessions is based on the children’s interests or feedback from the parents as to what they would like to see happening. The children’s progress is recorded in learning dairies following the early Years Foundation stage. The diaries are then either given to the parents or shared with schools nurseries etc to help with the child’s transition to another service. All of our work is done in partnership with other agencies. For example at Hewish Traveller site once a fortnight one of the early years pre-school practitioners comes on the Bus and her presence has helped improve the uptake of nursery places and helped the child settle into school life.
Bristol Playbus has extensive experience in providing an out reach service on the local Traveller’s sites. We endeavour to ensure we deliver a quality service. This year we received a good rating from Ofsted.
